HalfLife2 / Metroid Out Tomorrow

sounds of a loud western traingle will be goin off tomorrow mornin' at
the local video game stores
"come n' git it". After seeing the unimpressive lineup for halo2 at my
local westlake electronics boutique, I question the ability of gamers in
the later nerd ages to come out on the lunch break and grab their copy
of the latest duo of games.

Having ordered HL2 on Steam and without a gamecube, i'll probably be
missing from the lineup too.

I've only got meetings in the afternoon... maybe i'll check out hl2
tomorrow morning :)

  • Fired up Halflife2 last nite around 12:30 after about a half hour of decrypting my files. wow... they musta been ecrypted good. In any case the game is totally different than other games i've played and has the feel of original hl. Smooth game play and a definitive "feel" that makes you intrigued to keep on playing. It's very enjoyable and the characters in the game look excellent. Truly enjoyable :)

  • You have to love it when a game scares you, I mean literally scares you. For example:

    --Semi Spoiler--

After you work you way through Ravenholm, which is creepy as is (I hates them headcrabs), you drop down into this mine pit. As you near the bottom floor, you start seeing things moving around on the ground. Needless to say there are an enourmous number of headcrabs on the ground below (quick side note, there are two new types in hl2, black and fast; both much worse than the original). I seriously thought to myself, "I don't want to go down here", and then spent the next 15 min trying to kill as many crabs as I could and find the fastest way to get the hell out of there. That's awesome game design.

  • An note on the above post, the 15 minutes were spent on the broken catwalks above the ground where the crabs couldn't get me. Had to stay off that ground...

  • I had similar problems with those nasty lil black speedy headcrabs... it was kinda funny... the first time i hucked a grenade at them they sorta stupidly hung around and got blasted,,, but the second time they scattered and were afraid of it... I dunno if that was a coincodence or if the AI sorta learned to fear grenades... in any case it made for a cool experience while playing.
